365 Day 30

Coffee, anyone? Keep in mind, there are only 2 of us in the house, and only 1 who drinks coffee!

365 Day 29 Weekly Theme Kitchen

I decided to focus on the kitchen this week, probably because I was just cleaning it!

365 Day 28

I'm having trouble choosing just one picture this week!

365 Day 26

I was looking for texture today, and thought wind & water might make an interesting combination. There are more of these shots on the regular blog.

365 Day 22 Weekly Theme Texture

Wendy & I attended a seminar series put on by the Lethbridge Photography Club. It was interesting, although I was a bit disappointed to miss the sessions done by my favourite local photographer, Mike Byneshewsky, and the photographer who taught me in my classes, Henriette Plas.

I decided my theme for this week is texture. I'm not sure how I'll interpret that over the week, but here is today's shot.

365 Day 21

This is a terrible picture, but I ran out of time! I do like the shadows though.

365 Day 20

I'm going to have to take my Thursday pictures in the morning. It's too late when I get home from work, and I am uninspired.

365 Day 19

My favourite model came for a visit tonight, so I was able to take lots of pictures of her. I chose this one for  365, but there's lots more on the regular blog.

365 Day 17

I almost forgot to take a picture today!  I was on my way to get ready for bed when I remembered. I had to find something interesting in a hurry.

365 Day 16

Apparently I don't have a theme for this week, so this week will be random pictures.

365 Day 15 Weekly Theme Random

I haven't chosen a theme for the week yet. I'm not really sure what to do. However, since I'm looking after Fundy today, I couldn't resist taking pictures of her. She's so beautiful. I'm posting a couple of pictures because I couldn't choose one.

365 Day 14

My most meaningful jewelry has no real value, except to me. I can keep Molly close to my heart with ashes pendants.

365 Day 13

My cycling bracelet. Reminds me of good and bad times on the bike. Wish I could get out on it, but the weather is just not cooperating this winter.

365 Day 12

Origami earrings! My brother gave me the cranes, and my sister gave me the dragon flies. So pretty.

365 Day 11

Kathleen & I have been best friends since I was 3 and she was 2. That is a very long time! Leaving her was one of the toughest things about moving here, especially as she was pregnant with my godson at the time. Fortunately we are able to maintain our friendship.

When she was younger she went on an exchange to Brazil. She loved it, and thought about moving there permanently, which panicked me. While she was deciding what to do, she would go back regularly. On some trips she brought back some stones. I have many of them, which I plan to have set one day. She also had an 8 carat green tourmaline that I coveted, but it was too expensive for me to buy.

She & Mark ended up on an HGTV show, where they had to redesign their master bedroom to look like a bedroom a designer had done. It was a competition between 2 couples. I made the curtains for them, thinking it would be easy. However, their designer arrived with 27 yards of silk dupioni and 24 yards of blackout fabric. He wanted curtains lined with the blackout, and a matching valence. Holy crap! I should mention that their master bedroom is about 20 ft long, and all window, including a large bay window! It took me FOREVER to make these curtains, and I hurt my wrists doing it because of the weight of the fabric. The worst of it is though - they lost the competition - because the designer didn't like the curtains!!! I felt awful. The only saving grace is that Kathleen & Mark didn't actually like the prize that was given, so they didn't mind losing.

To thank me (not sure why, since I lost them competition), Kathleen gave me the tourmaline, and I had it set before we left Toronto. So it has much meaning for me as well. I should also mention that Mark & Kathleen took us out for one of the best dinners we've ever had.

365 Day 10

Since I'm doing jewelry this week, I decided to focus on items with sentimental value. Not that I don't love all the jewelry I have, because I do, but some pieces have special meaning for me. Obviously the second day's picture was of our wedding rings, so there is no explanation required there, especially since our 20th anniversary is this year.

I was given this pin when I was young (I think the writing on the back says 1976). It is handpainted on an egg shell. I loved this pin when it was given to me (who wouldn't love a dog cameo!), but wore it to school one day in the winter and lost it outside at recess. Everyone looked for it, but no one found it. I was devastated, and assumed it was gone forever. Happily though, when spring came, a classmate found it frozen into some ice on the playground. We were able to dig it up with only minimal damage. Thus this pin has a lot of meaning for me.

365 Day 8 Weekly Theme Jewelry

OK, I needed to choose a theme that was a little less psychically challenging for this week, so it is - jewelry. I figured why not, I have enough of it!

Here are the raw materials. Yes, I keep my beading stuff in a tackle box. More interesting pictures will follow, I hope, but I needed a starting point.

365 Week One in Review

Wow, that was tough. Not taking the pictures, although that is tougher when I'm at work, but to deal with my own body. Boy, if you want to test how you feel about the way look, try taking some pictures of yourself. I couldn't take a picture of all of me, because all I can see are the flaws, and those are many. I can't see anything positive about me at all. And the only reason I could take the pictures I did is because of the tattoos. If I didn't have those there's no way I'd have taken those shots. The tattoos distracted me from me.

We'll see if I make any progress with how I feel about my body over the year.

365 Day 7

Well, week one is done. On to a new theme tomorrow, although I haven't decided what that will be. So that's the end of pictures of me until next month.

365 Day 6

I really don't like this picture, but I was desperate to get one taken today. A long day of work, plus catching up with a friend, plus wanting to go to bed early all added up to rushing. Rushing equalled not getting the shot I wanted. Oh well, it's bound to happen over 365 days!

365 Day 5

Don't worry, only 2 more days of me, then I move on to another theme!

365 Day 3

Day 3.

365 Day 2

365 Day 2

Day 2. I had trouble choosing between two shots. In the end I picked this one because I liked the wrinkliness. I do get a bit annoyed because the colours look so much better before I post pictures to the blog, then the colours fade.

365 Day 1 Weekly Theme Me

365 - Day 1

Ok, here's day one of 365 days of pictures. Not all of them will have commentary, but I thought I'd introduce the first picture, and why I am going to regularly focus on the subject of me.

I hate my body. I hate being fat & out of shape. I won't go into the politics of why I hate my body here. I'll leave that for my thesis. It is sad that I do, but it's true. As part of this project I am going to take pictures of my body regularly. I don't expect this will change the way I feel about it necessarily, but perhaps I will see it in a different light. So here is the first of the "my body" pictures. More will follow this week, and probably once a month as I go through this. My apologies in advance to those who do not want to see pictures of my body!

Also of note is that photographing bodies is a great chance to practice light and shadow, so I hope to learn something about that too.

Introducing the 365 Project

Here is the original post from my main blog. Since starting the project, I've decided that I am going to do this on a separate blog so that I can keep everything apart. I think it will bother me to have this stuff mixed up with regular blog entries. I'll post this address on the main blog so you can always connect to it.

Stealing an Idea!

Wendy had a great idea, which I've stolen from her! We're going to do a 365 Project, where we take a picture every day for a year. When it's done I'll put mine together in a book, as a keepsake. My plan is to post the pics on the blog once a week. Wendy & I will share our ideas, and hopefully provide some inspiration for each other (and motivation to keep doing this!). I'm hoping to challenge myself at least once a week to do something different, to challenge myself to try something I maybe normally wouldn't. I suspect some of these things will work, and others won't, but by the end I hope I've learned something.

Thanks to Wendy for the idea!

Here are some of the themes I'm thinking of tackling. Some of these are from Wendy, some are my ideas, and some are from others who have done this previously. I think I may choose some as weekly themes to keep focussed.
